About Kohoj Trek : Kohoj, the hill fort is situated in Palghar region. One can see this fort while traveling on Mumbai-Ahmadabad highway near Manor Naka. This fort is at about 12 kms from Wada. We will be taking the route which starts from Waghote. This village is located on Manor-wada route at around 8 kms from Mumbai-Ahmadabad highway. One can reach to the top of Kohoj within 3 hrs from the base village. We can find the name of Kohoj in the list of those 23 forts, which were surrendered by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Purandar treaty with Mughal on 11 June 1665.

Kohoj Hill Fort is a wonderful hill fort destination near to Thane City. Located 105 km away from Mumbai, the base village to this trekking destination is Vagothe. There are buses from Thane to Wada, from where one can catch buses to Vagothe. The trek to Kohol Hill Fort is comparatively easy and may take about three hours to reach to the plateau. From there, it is a half an hour trekking to reach to the highest point of the fort. The fort region is ideal for bonfires and camping. There are also a couple of portable water cisterns here so one can plan for camp cooking and cleaning here. The plateau is a very windy area and gets too cold at night, so campers need to keep warm clothes handy. The best time to visit this place is during winter seasons. The way back down is so ea sy to cover and will take hardly who hours. There is also a big lake at the base point of the fort in which the trekkers can take a dip and relax.

Kohoj is located about 104 km from Mumbai off the Mumbai - Ahmedabad Highway. Upon reaching Manor you have to take a right turn under a newly built flyover and take the Manor - Wada road. It is approximately around 10 km from the right turn. A few minutes drive on this road and one can see the Kohoj fort on your right. At the bottom of the fort is a lake known as 'Pazhar'.

Kohoj Fort is in a dilapidated state and has remained abandoned for centuries. Kohoj has a moderately difficult gradient and it takes about two and a half hours to reach the main plateau from Vaghote village which is situated at the base of the fort. Access to Kohoj Fort is via the main trek trail at which breaks from the Kohoj Fort road near the Saltwater lake on the Wada-Manor road. On reaching the plateau of the fort, a temple of Lord Shankar can be seen, which has now been rehabilitated. Two cisterns can be seen in front of the temple. One of the routes descends from the left side of the temple, where seven adjoined cisterns are located. One of the cisterns bears clean water. The other two cisterns have been spoiled, the remaining four being clogged. Few remnants in dilapidated state can be seen to the right of the temple.
